About Me

My name is Beth Larsen.

I was born in a coal-mining town in Pennsylvania, but made in a suburb of Detroit.

I was a curious kid, always bringing home fascinating discoveries.  One time it was clams from the beach that my sister Amy and I stashed in our dresser drawer until the stench gave us away.

Birds, plants, rocks, flowers, bugs, even mice caught my attention.  In high school, I was inspired by singing, the violin, theater arts, and communication of any kind.

In the early 1970s, I was introduced to metaphysics, thanks to a soulful, progressive boyfriend named Bill.

I started to view the world through a broader lens.  I also had my first taste of energy medicine.

In the late '70s, I discovered holistic medicine, and that started a 40-year quest into healing in all forms.

I lived in Los Angeles for 21 years, a mecca for out-of-the-box thinking, and I took full advantage of it.  Everything I learned made sense to me, and I began to see the connections inherent in all.

My classes and interests included energy medicine, shamanism, herbs, past-life regression, astrology, nutrition, essential oils, EFT (tapping), body mechanics, acupuncture, yoga, and organic gardening.

I adopted special needs dogs and had two incredible holistic veterinarians, Priscilla and John, who were not only gifted but also inspiring teachers.  Through my dogs, they showed me that the body knows how to heal itself when given what it needs to obtain balance.

I became an intent "watcher" of nature, animals, children, adults, and patterns, especially those that are difficult to see.  I journaled.  I got really good at introspective work, yet struggled with personal growth just like everyone else.

Without a doubt, life can be hard.  One of the best pieces of advice I ever received was from a dear mentor, Merlin.

Merlin asked me to imagine what the world would be like if our default mode were to be curious.  If our first thought was, hmmm....isn't that interesting? - before judging or jumping to conclusions.

This became my mantra as I sorted through my life and kept on my journey.

My "real" jobs during this long period included seven years as a professional model/actress, and then 33 years in nonprofits.

Acting honed my communication skills, while nonprofit work fed my soul, teaching me compassion, empathy, and how to speak up for those with no voice.

In 2018, life took some pretty serious turns, and I hit the wall.  It was time to shift, and I began to follow my heart's longing to work in the complementary and alternative healing arts.

I enrolled in a shamanic energy medicine course through The Four Winds and earned certification as a Shamanic Energy Medicine Health Coach.

Part of shamanic training is to go through your own deep transformation and healing.  It was just what I needed to reboot and start again.

The course was intense and gave me a solid foundation.  It also gave me a meaningful place to pull together the fields of study that I had been practicing in one form or another for 40 years.

Why am I choosing to do energy balancing work with pets?

Because balanced energy underpins happiness and well-being, and because animals fascinate me.

I also believe that each family pet has a mission to accomplish and a voice that needs to be heard.

Animals have taught me so much, especially my last dog, Grace.  Without a doubt, she was my most profound teacher.  In some ways, she has an even stronger voice now that she has her angel wings!

The Energy of Grace is a tribute to her huge spirit – and to all pets who connect us to wonder and grace through their relentless optimism and love.
